We found a building materials owner and talked about costs
We paid him $250 matched with $50 from the school and arranged for delivery the next day.
While we were talking the girls took balloons up the street and found kids to make balloon animals and hats. They also used 10 pictures from the Polaroid.

We drove over to the mall the Garden and bought food for the next few days. A few girls went in Washington's car and the a couple girls and all of the guys rode in the back of a truck all the way from south of Quito to the north of Quito to the Mall. It was an incredible ride. We got to see some incredible scenery. We all had a blast!
We returned back to Washington's house and talked about our experiences.
Day three: School Building Project Paradiso de los Ninos
We got up early and traveled to the school el Paradiso de los Ninos. We received the blocks, sand and cement. We had to lift all items to the second story of the building we were adding onto.

Many of us had never used a trowel let alone build a wall out of bricks and mortar.
The first wall went up slow and many were not working so we bought more trowels and the second and the third walls started to take shape. We took lunch and worked on the final row of the 2nd wall and finished off the 3rd and 4th walls. Washington and a couple left early for a Dental appointment in town and the rest left after the 4th wall was completed. We all took showers and prepared to the next day.

Day 4: Riobomba
Woke up early 5:00am to travel to Riobomba
We drove 4 hours in a bus and two cars from the LDS church. We stopped at a resourt for breakfast. We were all exhausted and sun burned and some were a little car sick. We spent over $100.00 on breakfast but it did improve our moral. We arrived at Riobomba and saw the destruction of the military station there. We arrived at the small church where we were going to have medical and dental services and the Padre was not ready. We then drove to a small city and visited an orphanages for "special kids". We gave out balloons, gave dental and medical kits, clothes, and played with the kids. We also left some Polaroid pictures.
We then drive to a retirement center and visited a number of elderly people. We gave clothes.
We drove back to Riobomba and started giving Dental and Medical Services. We attended 25 people that afternoon and didn't even scratch the surface of the people that were waiting in line. We ate dinner at a little restaurant on the side of the highway called "Texas Grill" and traveled back to Quito.
Day 5: Church and Middle of the World
We attended the LDS church and sang "I am a child of God" as a musical number in sacrament meeting. We decided to take a trip up to the "middle of the world" that day. We took pictures and took a small tour.
We then went to a second place which is the "magnetic" center of the world and took a tour. We saw some incredible demonstrations of how this magnetic center effected our world. We watched as water was affected when drained from a sink and how an egg would balance on a nail on the exact center of the world. We were also taught about culture. If anyone stole or something or was lazy, they would be wiped by the elders in the tribal council.
We returned to Washington's house late. Some went to the park and sang songs while Neal played the guitar. All of the guard and their Rotweiller dogs gathered to listen. They loved it.
Day 6: Local project in Quito
We found some project in San Jan which is on the west side of Quito way up on the hill. We arranged and started a small kitchen. The mother had a son with asma. Whenever she cooked the smoke would bother her son's breathing so she needed a kitchen outside of the room where they slept. We started this project and got up 5 levels of bricks. The second project was to help put a door on the front of another lady's property.
They had problems with theives. They had a door and metal for posts but nothing else. We bought the cement and sand and we dug holes and arranged for the posts to be places and cemented. There were not enough jobs for everyone so we decided to run up to a local soccer field and play with the kids. There weren't any kids so we yelled up to a local community kids center and asked them to come play. Within about 10 minutes we had more than 30 kids playing soccer with us in the soccer field. All of the gringos were dead tired after running up and down the court a few times. We were really up on the hill at about 13,000 feet, the air was thin. The kids were excited and we had a lot of fun. The field was made of dirt. There was a smaller field up one level on the hill that was made out of an old trash dump. Aliece and Nicki showed off their skills as soccer professionals.
We left each project about half done so that the cement would dry and we could continue on another day.
Day 7: Otovalo and Ibarra
We traveled to Otovalo, Ibarra and Cotacachi. We rented a van that sat 15 people and the LDS church brought a truck that sat 4 people. Washington also brought his car. We went to the market first and bought all sorts of stuff. Most guys bought hats. We then went and found the school that needed help. We got there just before all of the kids left. We made balloons for them and gave them dental and medical packets to take home with them.
We now know where they are located so future expeditions can do more at this location.
We then traveled to Ibarra where we bought wood carvings. Washington and Brent Jensen left from there so Brent could talk to a group of young people in Institute about CSI's opportunities. The rest traveled to Cotacachi and bought lether goods. We then traveled back to Quito that night.
Day 8: Continue Quito Projects
We returned to the 2 projects that we had started on Monday and took on one new project were we sealed off a door to the street and made preparations to make a window. We continued the other projects as far as we could before we returned to Washington's house.
Day 9: Prepare to leave
We prepared to return to the US. We traveled to the US embassy and talked with the head of immigration and naturalization to see if we could help with Washington's visa. We went to the LDS Offices and said goodby to the representatives there. We went to the mall and ate lunch. We went to a small Indian market, packed up our wood carving orders from otovalo. We returned to the house and packet, cleaned up, left notes and gifts for the people that had let us use their homes. We packed up all of our stuff in the vans and got on the plane to come home.
Day 10: Red Eye Flight
We arrived at 6:00pm in Twin Falls.
This could not have been possible without the help of the Zambrano Family. They are AWESOME!!!!
