Charity Anywhere A month ago I had a group of doctors call me from the East coast and wanted to know if we could help them get to the Galapagos islands. They were going to Peru and do surgeries for a week and then on their return home they wanted to play on the Galapagos islands. They had seen our work on the Galapagos on our website. I suggested that we send Dr. Zambrano along to introduce them to the Mayor. They expressed an interest in returning next year to work on the island. I called Dr. Zambrano and said that 20 doctors were going to the Galapagos and they were willing to pay for his airfare. We actually had four of the doctors listed as Charity Anywhere Foundation volunteers and saved them the tourist tax. When they left, 4 of them were Galapagonians. Upon arrival on the island they went and visited the Mayor and the local hospital. While they were at the hospital and new mother brought in her baby that had a hair lip and cleft pallet. No one on the island were qualified to do the operation. The 4 doctors looked at the baby and offered to operate. The mother was very hesitant and was not sure she wanted them to do the operation. Dr. Zambrano talked to her and said these doctors do this in the United States all the time and he recommended that she allow them to do the operation. This operation in the states would cost over $30,000. They did the operation and it was very successful.
A miracle was performed. The right doctors were on the island at the right time and Dr. Zambrano was on the island at the right time to convince the mother to allow the doctors to operate. and the mother brought the baby in to the hospital when the doctors were there. No coincidences here, pure miracle.
In the summer of 2007 I traveled to Hermosillo, Mexico to rendezvous with a group of 15 scouts and 5 leaders from Utah. They told me the following story. They had 4 vehicles and one was pulling all their gear in a very long trailer. They had driven from Salt Lake City clear to the border taking two days. As they crossed the Mexican border the roads became a little bumpier and rough. Their destination was Hermosillo. Every thing was running fine until about 20 miles from Hermosillo they discovered they had a flat on the pickup pulling the trailer. They got out and started to fix the flat tire. One of scouts noticed that there was smoke coming out of the trailer. They quickly opened the trailer and discovered that one of the trailer tires had been rubbing against the wooden floor of the trailer. There was so much friction that it had burned a hole in the floor the size of a mans hand and was smoking. They immediately poured water on the smoking wood floor. They realized that if the flat tire had not occurred on the pickup at that moment that they would never had been able to stop the burning floor in the trailer. The trailer had 10 gallons of gas in it in plastic jugs. Another miracle where things happened at the right moment to overcome a potential disaster. The group realized that they had truly been blessed. Gordon Carter
Charity Anywhere had been working with Padre Jaime, an American Catholic priest in Tijuana, on building a school for disadvantaged children, called CANOA. We had completed the building and it was open for business. He found that the children had to be bused by the family to the school. All the students were in wheel chairs so a member of the family had to be with them. All of the families could not afford the bus fare for both. Hence, attendance was not consistent. Padre Jaime decided to try and build some apartments next to the school so the family and student could live next to the school. There was a building lot next to the school that was for sale at $13,500. The families got together and raised $3,500. They could not start building until the lot was paid for. I had attended an insurance training session in San Diego 6 months previous to buying the lot. At the training session I met the lady incharge of the charitable department of the insurance company. I mentioned the project in Tijuana and she was very interested. Just before Christmas, she called and told me that they would like to make a donation to Charity Anywhere and we could use it however we wanted. She said the donation would be for $10,000. I was stunned. We committed those funds to CANOA, for the land and apartments for the school. The construction was started at Christmas by our volunteers. Author 'Gordon Carter
