This came from our contact in Guatemala on the Incaperina program. Your dollars have done wonders on to help this little girl. Thank you so much for your donations.

Charity Anywhere Foundation provides funds to buy Incaperina, a nutritious mush meal for pregnant and new mothers. A health clinic at Senahu distributes the powder meal to the mothers in most need. Each month they weigh the child and charts its progress. The first picture is a child 15 months ago. The second is now. A miracle of miracles. I suggest you have your children see these pictures. I invite you to help. $52 will feed a child this meal each day for a year. 100% of your tax deductible donation goes to the program. We have a volunteer in Guatemala that handles the distribution each month. She charges us nothing.

Hello everyone, We were able to make the flight very well yesterday and are back in Quito today. We fly home tomorrow and will arrive in Bountiful at 11:30 that night. We have a hectic schedule leaving Quito at 6:30, to Bogota, to Miami, to Minneapolis, to SLC. We will be sitting in the air a lot! It was nice to relax a little last night. We went to Crepes and Waffles and had the most wonderful crepes with chicken, aspergas and mushrooms. They also have fabulous desserts. I’m not sure what we are doing today. I am freezing now. We have been so hot and now we are at 60 degrees.

Hello everyone, We are still back in the jungle but we have finished our work here and will be flying back to Quito this afternoon. We had a very long day yesterday. The doctors served 155 people and the dentists 121. I worked with the floride treatments for the children and we completed 95. We could have done more but we ran out of toothbrushes. The parents were so anxious for their children to learn and complete the process. We had 6 US volunteers with us and 3 were Spanish speakers. They were wonderful. We had a big dinner celebration at noon. All the dignitaries from the villages and PetroEcuador were there to thank us for coming. We had tolapia rapped in banana leaves. It was delicious. It was back to work afterward. We then had to break down the equipment and facilities we had brought. At 6 we went off into the jungle further to deliver a incubator to a little village health facility. We were there for a while so our doctors could instruct them in its use. We were not far from a beautiful lake so we walked down there. There were old hewn out wooden canoes. The place was so neat with all the night sounds of the jungle. The birds and the fireflies made it amazing. It took an hour to get back and then we had to load up the equipment and supplies in the truck for the trip home. We were SOOOO tired last night.

There are oil wells and pipelines everywhere. Along the side of the road you see at least 2 or three and many times as many as 10. Some are 4 or 5 inches in diameter but some are as big as at least 12 inches. They are still drilling in many places. In the mornings there are at least 12 big oil tanker trucks being filled and sent out. It looks like the places there at North Salt Lake except lots more of the huge storage tanks.

We catch the flight back this afternoon. What a great experience….but I´ll be ready for a nap when I get back.

Got to go.

Buenos Dias everyone, We are so tired today. We were up at 6:30 and worked all day and got back to our cabin at 6:30 tonight. It was cooler today because just before noon there was rain. We were already wet from sweat but the rain cooled the air and felt wonderful. It also provided a beautiful sunset. I am happy to report that I’ve picked up a few more Spanish words. I am so jealous of those who are fluent. Today in the morning I worked with the children. We taught how to brush teeth and then did a floride treatment. The kids were so fun and responsive. iN THE AFTERNOON we painted the school. They decided they’d like that so we gathered some communitiy members and it was mostly finished by the end of the day. Even the children pitched in. We also set up a clorine system that produces clorine from salt.
This strong liquid then is added to the villager’s drinking water to make it clean to drink. 4 dropswill clean a gallon (I think that is the ratio). After work we went back into the forest to a telopia pond and had a chance to catch some fish. It was pretty amazing to hear the sights and smells of the back woods. We also saw some parrots and several other birds that I don’t know the name. The group accomplished so much. Just in the morning, the doctors saw 150 patients and the dentists saw 59. They are a hardworking crew. I wish you could be with us. We feel very safe and stay in a lock’down facility. It’s not that fancy but it has flush toilets and air conditioning. We have good meals and there is a rec center where there is ping pong and volleyball and pool tables. Tonight there was soccer on TV. This is a great experience. We send our love to all.

On Friday we will try to make some calls from Quito. Hope all is
well.

Love you much
Susan Carter

Hello Everyone, It has been a big day. We flew in the jet just 30
minutes over the Andes Mts into the jungle. Yes it is quite warm
and humid. The flight was so interesting as we flew over the miles
and miles of trees and saw the big rivers cut through the land. The
city here is larger than I thought. It is very poor but big. All
associated with the PetraEcuador. Huge big refinery here. We counted
12 huge tankers lined´up to leave in the morning. Its amazing. Our
accomodations are less than I expected but still comfortable…air
conditioned and we can get some American TV. We have a group of 25
who are here with CAF. They are great people. There are 6 students
who are here from the US. Tomorrow will be the real test. I will be
helping Maria with the floride. Thank you all for your prayers.

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Dredge, volunteers from Charity Anywhere Foundation, left Monday, August 2, to drive an ambulance through Mexico to deliver it to the small hospital at La Tinta, Guatemala. Jesse is a student at Utah State University and is part of the Chapter of Charity Anywhere Foundation at the college. He completed an LDS mission in Guatemala in 2007 and speaks the language fluently. Paul Oja, of Malad, Idaho, will meet them at the border to assist them and help as a driver. The USU chapter of CAF has been working over the last few months gathering donations and having fund raisers to pay for the fuel and expenses necessary to make the trip. Charity Anywhere Foundation purchased the used ambulance from the city of Malad, Idaho earlier this spring.

Charity Anywhere Foundation is a local organization that has been working in Guatemala for over 10 years. They have been disturbed by the lack of urgent medical care for the mountain areas. Although there is a small functioning hospital in La Tinta, the people have to walk miles to get service. Previously, people were carried to the hospital in the back of a pickup furnished with a mattress. The addition of an ambulance will help to get medical attention to the desperately ill far quicker. It will also have emergency equipment on board to begin treatment. Medical personnel from Malad are flying down and will train the Guatemalan medical professionals on proper use of the ambulance and all its medical equipment.

Charity Anywhere Foundation has also organized and administer a Incaperina Nutrition Program which helps provide Incaperina, a nourishing drink fortified with nutrients and vitamins, for several hundred mothers and babies in the area around Senahu. Over the years CAF has helped reduce the malnutrition mortality rate from 20% to 1%. They work in cooperation with the World Health Organization in this area of chronic malnutrition and poor hygiene.

CAF Volunteers have also helped built an addition to a small school at San Nicholas. This allowed for more children to attend school where the government provides a nutritional meal for lunch.

Another group of CAF volunteers are in the Atitlan Lake area working to improve conditions at a school in Chimaltenango. This group of 15 from the University of Utah is headed by Aimee Hickey.
